This is not a government office or records custodian. This private reference cannot retrieve or certify a record, perform a title search, or correct an assessment. Send those requests to the county office that holds the file. For emergencies, call 911. If you believe you are being stalked or harassed, contact local law enforcement.
Where to Request West Virginia Records
West Virginia has no single statewide recorder for county deeds. Use the record type to choose the custodian, then provide the county, parcel or account number, record type, and date range:
- Owner, address, or parcel lookup: start with the West Virginia property search.
- Deeds and recorded releases: contact the county clerk for the parcel’s county.
- Assessment or tax ticket: contact the county assessor or sheriff.
- Parcel shape or plat: use the parcel map route, then ask the clerk for the recorded plat.
- Office location: use the West Virginia records-office directory.
- Records not online: make a written request under the West Virginia Freedom of Information Act, W. Va. Code chapter 29B, to the custodian.
The correct contact depends on the county. The official clerk directory lists each county clerk’s courthouse address, telephone, fax, and email. The assessor roster gives the county assessor address and phone. These offices, rather than a statewide website, hold or correct the parcel-level record.

The Tax Division provides statewide guidance; a question about one parcel’s deed, assessed value, or tax account should go to that county’s clerk, assessor, or sheriff.
